Sitting Volleyball

3x3

Two teams of 3 players are on the court, with 4 players per team. Each team may have only one athlete with a minimum impairment class (VS2), while the rest of the team must be VS1. The game is played on a smaller court than conventional volleyball. The court measures 8x4 meters, and the net height is 1.15 meters for men and 1.05 meters for women.

Players must maintain contact with the floor between their buttocks and shoulders at all times, except during brief movements to defend the ball.

Blocking the opponent’s serve is allowed, which is a key difference from conventional volleyball. Each team has three touches to return the ball to the opposing side. Matches are played as best of 3 sets. The third set is also played to 25 points, with a 2-point difference required to win.

It is considered a fault to lift the buttocks off the floor when contacting the ball (lifting is allowed in defensive plays, as long as at the moment of contact, the player is not entirely above the top edge of the net). Contact with the net is only a fault if it provides an advantage or if the top edge (7 cm band) is touched while playing the ball. There are no positional faults. The entire team rotates one position clockwise when they win a point that was started by the opponent’s serve.
