Para Archery
Precision and concentration define this discipline, where every arrow counts. Para archery allows athletes to compete from a wheelchair or standing, with equipment adaptations according to each athlete’s needs. It is a sport that demands a cool mind and a steady hand, arrow after arrow.
Archers are classified according to their type and degree of disability, ensuring fair competition. The main classifications are W1 (archers in wheelchairs with a higher degree of disability) and Open (archers in wheelchairs or standing with a lower degree of disability). Adaptations to the bow, arrows, and other equipment are allowed. This may include the use of mechanical release aids, supports, and other assistive devices.
Shooting distances and target sizes vary depending on classification and competition level. Archers may shoot from a seated position in a wheelchair or while standing. The same scoring system as in conventional archery is used, with points awarded based on the accuracy of the arrows on the target.
