Para Swimming
Every stroke counts in this discipline, which brings together swimmers with different types of disabilities. With adaptations in strokes, starts, and turns, Para swimming is a sport of precision, endurance, and coordination, where inclusion flows with every dive.
Swimmers are classified according to their type and degree of disability, ensuring fair competition. Adaptations are made in swimming styles (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly). Starts and turns are also adapted to guarantee the safety and fairness of swimmers with different disabilities.
Swimmers with visual impairments may use tappers to receive tactile signals before turns and at the finish. The basic rules of swimming styles are applied, with modifications to suit the abilities of swimmers with disabilities. For swimmers with visual impairments, the start can be auditory, using a sound signal instead of the conventional visual cue.
